一方で、これらの支出について「負担したからといって必ず議長になれるものではないという認識だった」と述べました。
福岡県議会で、正副議長の就任前に金銭を負担したとみずから名前を明かして証言したのは、元議長の吉松源昭議員と、元副議長の江藤秀之議員に続いて3人目です。
県議会最大会派の自民党県議団に所属し、2017年5月から1年間、議長を務めたほか、先月まで3年あまりにわたって自民党福岡県連の幹事長を務めていました。
これまでのNHKの取材に対し「金銭授受の問題については、第三者委員会の調査で話すことにしている」と述べていました。
