JR東日本は23日、台風25号の影響で運転を見合わせている久留里線の久留里～上総亀山間について、鉄道での復旧を断念すると発表した。2027年4月1日の廃止を予定しており、前日の3月31日まではバスなどによる代行輸送を続ける。
同区間では、列車の運行に影響する被害が多数発生。特に上総松丘～上総亀山間では、大規模な盛土崩壊が3カ所で発生していた。詳細調査と検討の結果、復旧には工事着手から半年程度かかることが判明した。
一方、同区間は2026年3月9日付で鉄道事業の廃止を届け出ている。復旧に要する期間と廃止予定日を踏まえ、復旧を断念する結論に至った。
今後は、君津市と2月16日に締結した基本合意書に基づき、持続可能な公共交通の構築を支援する。
