任天堂は、2027年2月中旬から適用される欧州のバッテリー規制変更に備え、欧州で販売する一部製品について、ユーザー交換可能なバッテリーを備えた改良版へ順次切り替える。改良版は2026年夏以降、製品ごとに順次投入される予定で、バッテリー交換に対応する点を除き、現行モデルとの機能面での違いはない。 EUの新しいバッテリー規則では、製品に内蔵された携帯型バッテリーについて、利用者が取り外し・交換しやすい設計を求めている。携帯型ゲーム機などを含む幅広い製品が対象となり、バッテリー劣化を理由に製品本体を買い替えるのではなく、交換して使い続けられる環境を整える狙いがある。これにより、製品寿命の延長や使用済みバッテリーの回収・リサイクル促進につなげる。任天堂ではこれに対応するため、Nintendo Switch 2本体やJoy-Con 2、Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controllerなどについて、内蔵バッテリーをユーザーが交換できる改良版を投入する。Nintendo Switch 2本体の改良版は2026年秋に登場予定で、バッテリー容量は現行版の5,220mAhから5,172mAhへ約1%減少する。重量は現行版の約401gから約411gへ、約10g重くなる。Joy-Con 2装着時の重量は、現行版の約534gから約548gとなる。なお、Nintendo Switch、Nintendo Switch Lite、Nintendo Switch(有機ELモデル)などの旧製品については、ユーザー交換可能なバッテリーを備えた改良版は投入しない。Nintendo Storeでの販売は2027年2月中旬以降に終了し、Nintendo Switchファミリー本体については同時期以降、欧州の小売店向け販売も終了する。
