Apple、温室効果ガス排出量を60%以上削減
Appleは16日、世界規模の温室効果ガス排出量を2015年比で60%以上削減したと発表した。2030年までに、Apple全体のカーボンフットプリントをカーボンニュートラルにするという目標「Apple 2030」の一環で、すべてのマグネットに99%再生希土類元素を使用することや、すべてのApple製バッテリーで99%再生コバルトを使用することなどを進めている。16日には2025年の環境進捗報告書も公開している。

Appleの2030年に向けた戦略では、残りの排出量を相殺するカーボンクレジット使用の前に、温室効果ガス排出量を、2015年と比較して75%削減することを優先している。2024年は、サプライチェーンの再生可能電力への継続的な移行や、より多くの再生素材を利用した製品設計などカーボンフットプリント削減に対する包括的な取り組みにより、推定4,100万トンの温室効果ガス排出を回避したという。
サプライチェーンにおいては、クリーンエネルギーを推進。17.8ギガワットの再生可能電力が常に利用可能になっている。半導体製造については、半導体とフラットパネルディスプレイの製造も含まれており、どちらも非常に強いフッ素系温室効果ガス(F-GHG)を排出するが、Appleに半導体を直接納入するサプライヤーのうち26社が、Apple製品を製造する施設で2030年までに少なくとも90%のF-GHGの削減を確約していることを発表している。
その他、再生素材と再生可能素材の利用の拡大や、廃棄物の削減、製品による排出量の削減などを進めている。
また、製品のリサイクルも強化。5月16日まで、直営店で対象となるアイテムをリサイクルすると、Apple製アクセサリを10%割引で購入できるキャンペーンなどを実施する。アースデイを記念したApple Watchの限定バッジなども展開する。
