これくらいのサイズ感がちょうどイイ!!! 新型BMW220グランクーペ試乗記
フルモデルチェンジしたBMWの新型「220グランクーペ」は、日本にちょうど良いサイズのセダンだった！ サトータケシがリポートする。

BMWの2シリーズグランクーペがフルモデルチェンジを受け、第2世代へ移行した。
2019年に登場した初代モデルを見たときも感じたけれど、背の高いSUVが幅を利かせる都市部で見ると、手頃なサイズのスタイリッシュな4ドアクーペのたたずまいが新鮮だ。
全長は4550mmと初代に比べて10mm長くなっているけれど、1800mmの全幅と2670mmのホイールベースには変更なし。市街地をぐるぐる巡って駐車場に停めたりすると、これくらいのサイズ感が使いやすいと実感する。
少しややこしいけれど、BMWの2シリーズにはふたつの系統があり、2シリーズグランクーペと2シリーズグランツアラーはエンジンを横置きするFFのプラットフォームを用いる。
一方、M2を含めた2シリーズクーペは、エンジンを縦置きするFRのレイアウトがベースとなる。
「ややこしい」と、書いたけれど、似たようなサイズでありながら目的に合わせてコストをかけて作り分けるあたりが、BMWらしいこだわり。
用意されるパワートレインは3種類。2.0リッター直列4気筒のクリーンディーゼル、1.5リッター直列3気筒ガソリン、そして2.0リッター直列4気筒ガソリンの最高性能版で、2.0リッターディーゼルと1.5リッターガソリンには48Vのマイルドハイブリッドシステムが備わる。今回試乗したのは、1.5リッターガソリンのBMW220グランクーペだ。
立体的な造形になったキドニー・グリルやダイナミックな印象を与えるリタのデュフューザーなど、エクステリアも刷新されているけれど、より変化の度合いが大きいのがインテリアだ。
まずセンターのタッチスクリーンとメーターパネルが一体化され、存在感を増した。BMWカーブド・ディスプレイと呼ばれるスクリーンはドライバーを囲むように湾曲しており、視認性に優れるだけでなく、新しい乗り物を操縦しているという高揚感ももたらす。
また、シフトセレクターがトグル式に変更されたため、センターコンソール周辺のレイアウトがすっきりと整理された。
