セイコーは、100万時間を積算して表示可能な機械式腕時計を開発し、メジャーリーガーの大谷翔平に贈呈した。セイコーは2016年から大谷をブランドアンバサダーとして国内で継続起用しており、両者のパートナーシップは10周年を迎えた。この記念すべき節目に完成した世界でひとつだけの特別なモデルは、大谷自身の「野球選手として、あとどれくらいの時間を積み重ねられるだろう」という想いに共感したセイコーが約3年前に開発をスタート。1913年に国産初の腕時計を世に送り出して以来、110年以上の長きにわたり腕時計を作り続けてきたセイコーは、100万時間（およそ114年）を積算可能な機械式腕時計の開発という前例のないプロジェクトに着手することになったという。この腕時計は、五層に重なる円盤針が各々の時間を積算している斬新なデザインを採用。それぞれの円盤針が回転する様子は夜空を彩る星々の軌跡をイメージさせる。大谷が積み重ねてきた努力の時間を、星の動きに重ね合わせたという本作は、「Seiko Star Time」と名付けられた。「Seiko Star Time」の発表に際して大谷は次のようにコメントしている。「これまでどれだけの時間を積み重ねてきて、あとどれだけできるのかなというのを、身につけて頑張れる一つのモノを形にしたいと思っていました。こうして実物を目の当たりにして、イメージした通りで、ちょっとびっくりしています。デザイン通りで本当に素晴らしいと思います。ありがとうございます」

時計について、詳しく見ていこう。「Seiko Star Time」は5枚の円盤針を備えた100万時間を積算して表示する唯一無二の機械式腕時計。5枚の円盤針が回転することで時間を積算していき、内側の円盤針からそれぞれ24時間、1,000時間、10,000時間、10万時間、100万時間までの積算時間を赤い目盛の下に、中心の円盤針は現在時刻を、それぞれ表示する。 5層に重なる円盤針の厚みを感じさせないために、ケースには専用に考案した新構造を採用。この新構造はムーブメント形状の変更や新しい組立方法の確立が必要であったため、設計や製造部門の垣根を越えた連携により実現した。また、シリコンストラップについては、装着性のよさを追求し、大谷の腕まわりに合わせた専用設計の長さで製作。快適なフィット感と着用時の美しさを兼ね備えた仕様となっている。ブライトチタンケース×シリコンストラップ、41.8mm径、自動巻き。非売品
