ロシアのプーチン大統領が北方領土の択捉島を訪問したことを受けて、北方領土の元島民などが国光外務副大臣と面会し、北方四島の早期返還に向けて外交交渉に取り組むよう要請しました。

これを受けて19日、北方領土の元島民などでつくる千島歯舞諸島居住者連盟の鈴木日出男副理事長と、北海道の濱坂真一副知事が、根室市を訪問中の国光外務副大臣と面会し、要請書を提出しました。

この中で、連盟と道は、プーチン大統領の択捉島訪問について「断じて受け入れられるものではない」と訴えました。

また、北方墓参などの交流事業の再開の見通しが立たない中、元島民の高齢化が進み、領土問題の解決には「一刻の猶予も許されない」としています。

そのうえで、北方四島の一日も早い返還に向けて、強い意志を持って外交交渉に取り組むよう要請しました。

国光副大臣は「プーチン大統領の訪問は元島民やその家族、国民の気持ちを傷つけるもので、日本の立場とも相いれず、断じて許すことはできない。要請の内容などを受け止めロシア側と粘り強く交渉していく」と述べました。

鈴木副理事長は「元島民の気持ちをしっかり分かってもらえるよう政府にはロシア側との対話を強く進めてもらいたい」と話していました。
