3月5日、ボルボは新型「ES90」を発表した。
新型ES90は、ボルボ初のサルーン型のBEV（バッテリー式電気自動車）だ。ただし、最低地上高は同等のサルーン以上を確保したという。一見すると4ドアセダンに見えるものの、リヤには大型のテールゲートを備える。
ボディは全長5.0mで、メルセデス・ベンツ「EQE」やBMW「i5」などとほぼ同じサイズだ。ホイールベースを3.1mとすることで、リヤシートの足元まわりの快適性を高める。なお、リヤシートは左右個別にリクライニングする。
インテリアは、9.0インチのドライバーディスプレイとヘッドアップディスプレイ、14.5インチのセンタータッチスクリーンが目をひく。インフォテインメントシステムには、いくつかのGoogleサービスが組み込まれる。さらに、ワイヤレスのApple CarPlayとAndroid Autoも搭載した。
積載性は高く、荷室容量は通常時425Lで、すべてのリヤシートを格納すると1256Lに拡大。フロントのボンネット下には22Lの小物入れを用意し、充電ケーブルなどが収納できる。
運転支援装備も拡充。将来的な自動運転を実現するためLiDARセンサーなどを搭載した。今後、ソフトウェアのアップデートなどによってすべての機能が使えるという。
パワートレインは3種類用意。標準仕様は後輪駆動のシングルモーター搭載で、高性能バージョンは全輪駆動のツインモーター搭載となる。後者は0〜100km/hの加速タイム、4.0秒の俊足を誇る。
バッテリー容量は88kWhと102kWhで、後者の満充電時の航続可能距離は最大700kmに達する（WLTPモード）。充電性能では、全車、 350kWの急速充電にも対応する。バッテリー容量が10%から80%まで充電されるのに必要な時間は約20分だ。
新型ES90の日本仕様などの詳細は今後明かされる。
