サンマの受精卵のふ化過程観察に初成功 福島の水族館など
サンマは食卓にのぼる身近な魚の代表ですが、生物学的には未解明な部分が多いと言われています。福島県いわき市の水族館「アクアマリンふくしま」と関西大学などの研究グループは、サンマの受精卵がふ化するまでの過程を詳しく観察することに初めて成功し、不漁が続くサンマの養殖技術の開発につなげたいとしています。
いわき市の水族館「アクアマリンふくしま」は、25年前の開館当初から全国で唯一、サンマの飼育展示と繁殖を行っていて、国内の研究機関などと養殖技術の研究も進めています。
おととしからは、発生生物学が専門で関西大学の日下部りえ准教授などと協力して、飼育するサンマの受精卵がふ化するまでの過程を詳しく観察しました。
調べたのは200個ほどの卵で、受精からおよそ2時間で2つの細胞に分かれ、その後、次々に増殖していきますが、1日ほどたって体の構造が形成され始めた段階で全体のおよそ3割が死んだということです。
原因は特定できなかったものの、この時期は水温の変化などの環境の影響を受けやすいと考えられ、研究グループでは、受精卵を慎重に扱うことで、ふ化する割合を高めることができるとみています。
サンマの受精卵の詳しい観察に成功したのは初めてだということで、グループでは、得られた知見を、不漁が続くサンマの養殖技術の開発につなげたいとしています。
日下部准教授は「生まれた卵の何割が親まで成長するかは、水産業では重要な情報で、卵をたくさん入手できても死んでしまうと効率が悪くなるため、養殖に役立つ知見だ」と話しています。
