Google翻訳、会話を続けながら訳す「ライブ翻訳」 語学学習機能も
Googleは、「Google 翻訳」の新機能としてGeminiの推論能力やマルチモーダル機能を活用した機能を追加する。「ライブ翻訳」をAIモデルにより強化し、70以上の言語に対応するほか、語学学習機能も試験導入する。

ライブ翻訳(Live translate)は、「Google 翻訳」のAndroid/iOSアプリで対応。ライブ翻訳を選び、翻訳したい言語を選択し、話し始めると画面に音声入力された文字と翻訳された内容を表示。また、音声での読み上げにも対応する。
従来よりGoogle 翻訳アプリで一方の言語の音声翻訳・表示機能や会話画面も用意されていたが、新しいライブ翻訳は、同じ画面で話者の切り替え操作などを行なわずに、会話を続けられる点が特徴となる。
翻訳アプリでは、会話の途切れやアクセント、イントネーションなどを識別し、会話をシームレスに切り替えて、正確な翻訳を行なう。また、音声を分離する高度な音声認識モデルを活用し、混雑した空港や異国の騒がしいカフェなどでも利用できるという。ライブ翻訳は26日から、米国、インド、メキシコのユーザー向けに提供開始する。
また、Google 翻訳の語学学習ツールとしての活用するための「言語練習(language practice)」機能を新たに提供開始する。AndroidとiOSのGoogle 翻訳アプリでベータ版を提供開始。まずは英語話者によるスペイン語・フランス語学習と、スペイン語・フランス語・ポルトガル語話者による英語学習から開始する。
会話練習を始めたい人や、旅行に向けた語彙の復習をしたい人など、翻訳アプリにおいて、ユーザーごとに専用のリスニング・スピーキング練習セッションを作成。練習課題はリアルタイムに作成され、語学スキルにあわせた課題で学習できる。
言語練習を始めるには、アプリの「練習(practice)」をタップし、スキルレベルと目標を設定するだけで、翻訳アプリが専用のシナリオを生成する。各シナリオでは、会話を聴き、聞こえた単語をタップして理解を確認するほか、ヒントが表示されるスピーキング練習に対応する。
