ライオン、洗剤つめかえパックのリサイクル性向上 初の製品化
ライオンは、プラスチック資源循環に向けた取り組みとして、リサイクル性を向上させたつめかえパックを初めて採用した「ルックプラス バスタブクレンジング クリアシトラスの香り つめかえ用大サイズ」を、数量限定で11月に発売する。

日用品で用いられるつめかえパックの多くは複合素材で構成され、容器としてリサイクルすることが困難だった。この課題に対し、東洋インキと共同で、洗剤などの日用品の包装容器にも利用できる「剥離リサイクル技術」を開発。複合素材を分離し、高純度な単一素材としての回収が可能となることから、プラスチックリサイクルの促進が期待できるとしている。
一般的に、つめかえパックを含む「軟包装」と呼ばれるフィルムパッケージは用途ごとに異なる要求性能を確保するため、ポリオレフィンやポリエステルなどのフィルムの間に印刷インキと接着剤といった多素材を用いる複層構成(積層フィルム)になっている。
これに対して東洋インキでは、複数の素材のフィルム同士を剥離し、印刷用インキをプラスチックから取り除くことにより高純度な単一材質として素材を回収する「剥離リサイクル技術」を開発している。
この技術では、水中でのアルカリ処理により接着剤層が溶解し、ナイロンやPETからなる表フィルム層とポリエチレンからなるフィルムが剥離する。剥離後に、比重の大きい表フィルム層は沈み、比重の小さいポリエチレンフィルムは浮いてくることによって、高純度なポリエチレンフィルムを回収できる。
ライオンは、この技術をもとに東洋インキとともに改良を重ね、洗剤などの内容物の品質や物理的な強度を担保しながら、リサイクルが容易にできるつめかえパックの製品化を実現した。
今後は、つめかえパック製造時に発生した端材(切れ端)など、製品として使用されなかった積層フィルムを回収し、再びつめかえパックのフィルムとして活用することを目指す。市場への本格展開は2025年中を目標とする。
また、つめかえパックリサイクルの社会実装に向けて、今回の技術をつめかえパックの標準的な技術として広く利用できるよう、リサイクルしやすい包装容器の設計ガイドラインの策定に取り組む。業界の垣根を越え、日用品業界に限らず他業界も含めて共同で検討する団体を募る。そのほか、今回のつめかえパックと既存のつめかえパックを選別できるシステムの確立を進める。
