【写真を見る】クワイエットなパンダ顔？を拡大チェック！
2024年のタグ・ホイヤーは、シルバーのパンダ、「タグ・ホイヤー カレラ クロノグラフ」がヒーローモデルということになる。レトロに見えるのは、伝説的なホイヤーの7753SNを着想源としているから。2023年に好評を博したカレラのブラックダイヤル、逆パンダモデルのデザインを踏襲した。
タグ・ホイヤーのアーカイブを見ればわかるように、シルバーのパンダ顔は決して新しいアプローチではない。先述の通り、2024年モデルは、ジャック・ホイヤーがこれまで生み出してきたデザインの中でも1960年代後半の「7753SN」が着想元だ。
ところで、ホイヤー カレラの初代モデルは手巻きのバルジュー・クロノグラフ・ムーブメントを採用し、シルバーまたはブラックのダイヤルを採用した。1960年代終わりに発売された第2世代では、シルバーのダイヤルにブラックのサブダイヤルを配した「パンダ」デザイン、またはその逆の「リバース パンダ」が加わっている。
そもそも「7753SN」はシルバーのダイヤルにブラックのサブダイヤルを配した「パンダ」のことであり、名称の「SN」とは、英語のシルバー「S」とフランス語でノワール（黒）を意味する「N」、それらの頭文字を取った英語とフランス語のミックスだ。
さて、新作はアワー・インデックスに縦のラインを施してこれ以上ない明確さを確保。時分針にも中心のラインで同様の効果をもたらした。そして、クロノグラフをリセットしたときにそれがはっきり分かるように、両方とも12時で止まる。ブラックのカウンターにはホワイトの針とインデックスを組み合わせ、視認性をさらに向上した。
ここからもわかるように、タグ・ホイヤーのパンダは、やはり視認性こそがすべて。ラップタイムを簡単に記録でき、気を散らす余地がなく、コントラストの効いたダイヤルがもたらす絶対的な視認性を誇るレース用計器を作ること──ここはブレてはいけないし、ブレないのである。
39mm径のステンレススティール製ケースには1970年代のホイヤー カレラを彷彿させるサファイアガラスを採用。ダイヤル外周とケースの間に配置されたタキメーターにシームレスにつながるようデザインし直している点も見逃せない。
