Google、ブラウザのエコシステム確保へ「Chromium支援基金」を設立
Googleは9日、The Linux Foundationと連携し、Chromiumベースのブラウザを支援するプログラム「Supporters of Chromium-Based Browsers」を発足すると発表した。
ChromiumはGoogleが2008年に発表したオープンソースのWebブラウザ基盤。Chromeをはじめ多くのブラウザや家電製品、デバイス、アプリケーションなどに採用されている。
今回のプログラムは、Chromiumエコシステムの健全性を維持するためのもの。Googleは、財政支援や技術進歩の促進を通じて、Chromiumベースのブラウザ開発をサポートする。
プログラムはLinux Foundationによって管理され、オープンガバナンス、透明性、包括性、コミュニティ主導の開発を重視する。また、Meta、Microsoft、Operaが初期メンバーとして参加する。
なお、Googleは米国司法省とGoogle検索に対応する独占禁止法違反訴訟において係争中。司法省による是正案では、Chromeの売却を求めており、Googleはこの是正案に反対している。
