新型BYD シーライオン7は、ちょっと前の“スーパースポーツカー並”である理由とは？

BYDジャパンが2025年4月15日、新型シーライオン7を発売開始した。余裕あるサイズのバッテリー駆動のSUVとして、幅広いニーズに対応する。テストドライブを体験したところ、装備も充実で、使い勝手は良さそうだし、しっかりした走りは魅力的だ。
日本に導入されるシーライオン7は、全長4830mmの車体と2930mmのロングホイールベースをもつ。230kW、380Nmのモーターをリアに搭載する後輪駆動のベースモデルと、フロントにもう1基、160kW、310Nmのモーターを載せたAWDの2モデルがラインナップされる。
これまで日本に導入された「ドルフィン」と「シール」、そして「ATTO3」の上に位置するのがシーライオン7だ。
本試乗記で紹介するのは、シーライオン7のAWDモデルだ。明確なグリルをもたないフロント部にはブーメラン型のLEDヘッドランプがはまり、プロファイル（側面）では逆カンチレバーとよばれるAピラーのみ車体同色にしたデザインなど、「海洋シリーズ」と呼ぶシールとドルフィンと共通する要素がいくつもみつかる。
ドライブの印象は、期待通りスムーズ。それ以上と思ったのは、活発な加速性と、気持ち良いハンドリング性能だ。入力と操舵を別々のモーターで行うデュアルピニオン式と凝ったステアリングシステムの恩恵もあるかもしれない。
ドライブモードで「スタンダード」と「エコ」を選んでいると、基本的には後輪駆動。アクセルペダルを強く踏み込むと前輪が駆動される。後輪駆動車のシーライオン7が静止から100km/hまで加速するのに要する時間は6.7秒。十分速いが、AWDでは4.5秒にまで短縮される。このスタイルで、ちょっと前のスーパースポーツカー並の加速性だ。
一般道での印象は、後輪駆動でも十分というものだった。
4WDになる「スポーツ」は先述のとおり、ぶっといトルクで前後輪を駆動するため、かなり鋭い加速を体験させてくれる。やりすぎ感すらある。
全長4.83m、全高1.62mとボディは大きめで、いっぽう価格は500万円前後と抑えめで、それでいてこの性能ぶりと、感心。
