アフリカ東部のジブチ沖で移民を乗せた船が転覆し、少なくとも139人が死亡したほか84人が行方不明になっていて、地元当局が救助活動を続けています。

IOM＝国際移住機関によりますと、ジブチ沖で8日の夜から9日の未明にかけて、移民を乗せた船が転覆したということです。

船はジブチから対岸のイエメンに向かう途中で、300人余りが乗っていて、これまでに子どもを含む少なくとも139人が死亡したほか、84人が行方不明になっています。

AP通信はIOMの現地代表の話として定員超過が原因だと伝えていて、地元当局が救助活動を続けています。

IOMによりますと、毎年多くの移民が安定した雇用や安全を求めてアフリカ東部からイエメンを経由して湾岸諸国を目指していて、イエメン情勢が悪化する中でも、海を渡る人が後を絶たないということです。

この航路では去年1年間で900人以上の移民が死亡、または行方不明になっているということで、IOMは各国政府などに対し、移民のための安全な移動手段の確保を呼びかけています。
