アメリカ国務省は16日、極左勢力による政治テロの対策強化をうたった国際会議を首都ワシントンで開催し、日本のほか、ヨーロッパや中南米などから、あわせて60以上の国の代表が出席しました。

このなかでルビオ国務長官は「われわれは極左勢力の政治的暴力が存在しないと思い込まされてきたが、私たちの国々にはその存在を証明する傷痕が残っている。そしてこの古くからある悪がいま新たに押し寄せてきている」と主張したうえで、各国が連携して対応にあたる必要があると訴えました。

国務省は2025年、アメリカで起きた反政府的な攻撃や企ての半数以上に極左の勢力が関与していたと主張しています。

トランプ政権はみずからに批判的な人たちを「左派」とみなして批判を繰り返しているほか、白人至上主義やファシズムへの対抗を掲げる「アンティファ」を国内テロ組織に指定しています。
