10月17日、スバルは。新しい「ストロングハイブリッド」を発表した。
スバルとして新たに開発した次世代のハイブリッドシステムは、状況に応じて動力源であるエンジンとモーターを効率よく使い分けるシリーズ・パラレル方式を採用。スバル独自のシンメトリカルAWDの基本レイアウトを継承しつつ、新開発の2.5L水平対向エンジンとトランスアクスルを搭載する。
このエンジンはストロングハイブリッド専用だ。また、高電圧バッテリーから供給される電力のコントロールをパワーコントロールユニットへ統合。高い電力変換効率で、車両の電費性能の向上に寄与する。
プロペラシャフトで前後輪をつなぐ機械式AWDの採用にも注目。路面状況に合わせて、後輪へ駆動力を瞬時に伝え、前後輪のトルクを適切にコントロールすることで、あらゆる路面で優れた走行安定性を発揮する。
駆動用として、高密度、軽量、長寿命なリチウムイオン大容量高電圧バッテリーを新開発。マイルドハイブリッド搭載モデルと同様に荷室フロア下に格納した。さらに、パワーコントロールユニットを、荷室フロア下からエンジン上部に配置変更。燃料タンク周辺を省スペース化することで、燃料タンク容量を63Lに拡大し、歴代スバル最長となるワンタンクで1,000kmを超える航続距離を実現した。また、EVドライブモードの採用を含めEV走行領域を拡大することで、走行時の静粛性も向上させた。
2024年12月、ストロングハイブリッドを初採用した「クロストレック」（日本市場向け）の発表を予定する。なお本日、10月17日より国内スバル販売店にて先行予約を開始した。
