アフリカ中部、コンゴ民主共和国ではエボラ出血熱による死者数が2300人を超えるなど感染が急速に拡大していて、WHO＝世界保健機関は18日、対応を検討するため、専門家による緊急の委員会を開きました。

この中で、テドロス事務局長は「抑制できているとは到底いえない状況だ」と懸念を示しました。

コンゴ民主共和国ではことし5月以降、エボラ出血熱の感染拡大が続いていて、WHOによりますと、これまでにおよそ5000人が感染し、2300人以上が死亡したということです。

感染拡大を受けてWHOは18日、対応を検討するため各国の専門家による緊急の委員会を開き、この中でテドロス事務局長は今回は過去のエボラ出血熱の流行と比べて最も速いスピードで感染が拡大しているとしたうえで「抑制できているとは到底いえない状況だ」と懸念を示しました。

今回の流行について、WHOは有効なワクチンがないとされるブンディブギョウイルスによるものだとしていて、今後、医療体制や人員の拡充などを進め、数週間のうちに、すでに対応している医療従事者に加え1000人以上の動員を目指すとしています。

WHOは今回の委員会で議論された内容を踏まえ、ほかの地域や国への感染拡大を防ぐための対応を進める考えです。
