上野東京ライン、川口駅停車へ ホームや自由通路整備
JR東日本大宮支社は、川口市と「川口駅上野東京ラインホーム及び自由通路等整備に関する基本協定」を締結した。この協定により、上野東京ラインのホーム整備などを進め、川口駅の鉄道輸送力の増強や駅周辺を訪れる関係人口の拡大を目指す。

基本協定では、上野東京ラインホーム整備と必要となる鉄道施設整備、自由通路の整備、店舗の整備などを定めている。設計と工事の施行はJR東日本が実施することを基本としている。
費用については、「ホーム等整備事業」と「自由通路整備事業」関連は川口市が負担。JR東日本の店舗等の補償の取扱いについては別途協議する。自由通路は、川口市が保有し、その他の鉄道施設(ホーム、コンコース等)はJR東日本が保有する。
2025年度から、測量・地質調査、基本・概略設計を順次実施する。上野東京ラインの停車により、川口駅から東京駅や品川駅、大宮駅への所要時間が短くなるほか、将来的には羽田空港アクセス線の開通による羽田空港へのダイレクトアクセスの実現も目指す。
