日々の通勤服をTikTokに公開しているのは、アメリカで7年生（中学1年生）に歴史を教えるトーマス・ウォード先生（58）。
古着で通勤をするおしゃれな姿が話題となり、現在は6万人のフォロワーを抱えています。
情報番組『トゥデイ』の取材によると、ウォード先生が気に入っているのは50年代から80年代のアメリカンファッション。
動画では、ロカビリーファッションを彷彿させるような、胸元を少し開けた柄シャツをパンツにインするスタイルからスーツまで、さまざまな古着を着こなす姿を披露しています。
コメント欄には、「映画に出演していそう」「ファッションショーに出るべき」「イケてる」といった声が寄せられました。
13人きょうだいの下から2番目として生まれ、当時は誰にもショッピングに連れて行ってもらえなかったそう。
唯一、古着屋だけが好きなものをなんでも買える場所でした。
大人になった今では、ビンテージショップで新しい服を買い、着ていた服を売るというサイクルが、生活の一環になっています。
同番組の取材に対して、ウォード先生は、授業をおもしろくするために「マントや軍服風のアンティークアイテムを着用することもある」と明かしました。
「授業をするときは、教室を活気づけなければいけません。生徒たちのやる気を引き出す必要があるんです」
「歴史の授業は、つまらないですよね。だから、毎日なにかおもしろいものを見せれば、生徒たちは授業を楽しんでくれます」
ウォード先生がTikTokを開設したのは2024年。当時、娘に言われた言葉を明かしました。
「娘は『お父さんらしくいて。そうすれば、みんなお父さんのことが好きになってくれるから』と言ってくれました」
「（私が働く）田舎町の子どもたちに、お金をかけずにオシャレを楽しんだり気分を良くしたりする方法があると、知ってほしいです」
