神奈川県川崎市にある、製鉄所の高炉などの跡地をめぐり鉄鋼大手のJFEホールディングスなどは、冷凍した生鮮食品などの保管倉庫として活用する方針を明らかにしました。

これは、JFEホールディングスと川崎市、それに物流施設の開発を手がける日本GLPが25日、川崎市役所で会見を開いて明らかにしました。

それによりますと、日本GLPは、川崎市の扇島地区にあるJFEの製鉄所の高炉などの跡地のうち、18ヘクタールの土地を買い取り生鮮食品などの保管倉庫として活用する方針です。

3000億円以上を投資して、延べ床面積37万平方メートルの倉庫を整備し、2030年7月以降、順次稼働させ、首都圏向けに冷凍食品などを供給する拠点にする計画です。

この製鉄所では、JFEの前身にあたる日本鋼管から100年以上にわたって鉄を生産してきましたが、国内需要の低迷などで3年前、高炉の操業を休止しました。

このため、会社と川崎市が連携しておよそ400ヘクタールの跡地の活用を進めていて、このほかデータセンターや液化水素の貯蔵タンクの建設なども決まっています。

JFEホールディングスの岩山眞士専務は「今までは重化学工業関連の集積地だったが、土地の利用のあり方が徐々に変わってきている。責任を持ってこの地域をマネジメントし次世代産業の集積を図っていきたい」と話していました。
