楽天モバイルは12日、10月以降も一部エリアにおいてはKDDIのローミングを継続する方向で協議を続けていると発表した。楽天モバイルでは、サービスエリアを拡大するまでの一定期間、KDDIとのローミング契約を結び、KDDIのネットワークを活用してきた。このローミング対応により、楽天モバイルはサービス開始当初より日本全国でLTE通信サービスを提供可能としていたが、その契約が26年9月までとなっている。 7日のKDDIの決算会見では、基本的に9月末でローミングを終了し、郊外では一部継続する可能性があると説明され、10日の楽天の決算会見でも、楽天モバイルが自前でカバーしたエリアではローミングが終わると説明していた。ローミングの終了とともに、「繋がりにくくなる」ことも危惧されるが、今回の楽天モバイルの発表では、一定のエリアではローミングを継続する方向で協議していることを強調。「楽天モバイルがカバーに時間を要するエリアに関しては、ローミングは10月以降も継続する」としている。また、楽天グループ三木谷浩史CEOも同じコメントをX上で投稿している。楽天モバイルのローミング契約につきましては、KDDI様とは現在も、詰めの協議を行なっています。楽天モバイルがカバーに時間を要するエリアに関しては、ローミングは10月以降も継続します。一方、楽天モバイルが十分カバーできているエリアはローミングを縮小していきます。… — 三木谷浩史 Hiroshi (Mickey) Mikitani (@hmikitani) August 12, 2026
