京大 昭和初期に研究目的で持ち出した遺骨 沖縄の施設に移管
昭和初期に京都帝国大学の研究者が沖縄県今帰仁村にある中世の墓から研究目的で持ち出し、京都大学で保管されていた遺骨が、今月、今帰仁村の施設に移管されたことが分かりました。遺骨をめぐっては、子孫にあたるとする人たちが裁判で返還を求めましたが訴えが退けられ、関係者で話し合いが続けられていました。
遺骨はいずれも今帰仁村にある中世の墓、百按司墓（むむじゃなばか）に葬られていて、昭和初期に当時の京都帝国大学医学部の研究者が研究目的で持ち出し、その後、京都大学で保管されていました。
この遺骨について、琉球王国時代の有力者の子孫にあたるとする人などが京都大学に返還を求める訴えを起こしましたが、大阪高等裁判所はおととし、「遺骨の返還を請求する権利はない」として訴えを退けました。
一方で判決では、「遺骨はふるさとに帰るべきで、関係者で話し合い、解決への道を探ることが望まれる」と指摘していました。
墓のある今帰仁村の歴史文化センターによりますと、判決後、関係者で話し合いが行われた結果、今月21日に京都大学から少なくとも26体分の遺骨がセンターに移管されたということです。
遺骨は埋葬せず、学術資料として保管されるということで、村の歴史文化センターの玉城靖館長は「地元できちんと保管し、子孫という方からの要望があれば開示したい」と話しています。
