米Amazonは、衛星インターネット「Amazon Leo」の航空機用アンテナを開発した。下り最大1Gbpsの通信速度に対応し、1基のアンテナで機内のエンターテイメントから乗務員の業務までサポートする。 今回明らかにされたのは、民間航空機への搭載用に開発されたAmazon Leoのアンテナの概要。下り最大1Gbps、上り最大400Mbpsの速度を実現し、機内のWi-Fiを通じて乗客全員に高速インターネットを提供する。1基のアンテナで機内全体のネット接続をカバーできる。 アンテナのサイズは縦1,470mm、幅760mm、厚さ66mmで、薄型で空気抵抗の増加や燃費への影響を最小限に抑えるデザイン。フェーズドアレイ技術を採用し、メンテナンス頻度を抑えるため内部は可動部をなくした設計で、航空機向けの高耐久仕様となる。わずか1日で設置できるとしている。 アマゾンは、小型で多数の低軌道衛星を使うインターネット接続サービス「Amazon Leo」を開発中で、2026年中のサービス開始が予定されている。ユーザーが使うアンテナなど大枠の仕様はすでに公開されているほか、4月にはデルタ航空が2028年から500機の航空機に導入すると発表、ジェットブルー航空とも契約を締結している。 Amazon Leoの地上局はすでに世界で300カ所以上に設置されているという。今回の航空機のように地上局から離れた海洋上や極地でも衛星間のレーザー通信技術により高速通信を実現する。
