アフガニスタン地震 耐震性低い住宅や軟弱地盤で被害拡大か
アフガニスタン東部で発生し多数の犠牲者が出ている地震について、現地の地震活動に詳しい専門家は耐震性の低い住宅が多いことに加えて、震源が浅く揺れやすい軟弱地盤の影響で、局地的に震度6弱から6強程度の激しい揺れに見舞われたことで、被害が大きくなっている可能性があると指摘しています。
アフガニスタン東部では、日本時間の9月1日、マグニチュード6.0の地震が起きて多数の犠牲者が出ていて、現地では倒壊した住宅に閉じ込められた人たちの救助活動などが続いています。
この地域の地震活動に詳しい同志社大学の堤浩之教授によりますと、今回の震源域周辺は、アフガニスタンがのるユーラシアプレートに、インド・オーストラリアプレートが衝突している影響で、複数の活断層が確認されていて、今回はその一部がずれ動き地震が起きた可能性があるということです。
今回は、震源の深さが8キロ程度と推定されるなど、浅い場所で地震が起きたうえ、震源域周辺には川で運ばれた砂などが堆積した軟弱な地盤が広がっているため、局地的に震度6弱から6強程度の激しい揺れに見舞われた可能性があると指摘しています。
そのうえで、日干しレンガなどを積み重ねているような耐震性が低い住宅が多く、激しい揺れで倒壊して大きな被害が出ているのではないかとみています。
堤教授は「マグニチュード6程度の地震は日本でも年に数回起きているが、数千人単位で死者が出るのは地震に対する社会のぜい弱性をあらわしている。国際的な援助などで耐震補強などを進めなければ、同じ被害を繰り返してしまうのではないかと危惧している」と話しています。
