複雑な物語に挑む広瀬すずの矜持──映画『遠い山なみの光』
カズオ・イシグロの長編小説デビュー作を映画化した『遠い山なみの光』が9月5日に公開された。1980年代のイギリスと、戦後間もない1950年代の長崎。時代と場所を超えて交錯する複雑な物語に主演の広瀬すずはどう挑んだのか？

是枝裕和、李相日ほか、名だたる映画監督と組んできた広瀬すず。各々の強固な世界観に毎度染まりきる彼女は、ある種の憑依型─その場で触れて、心で感じた“温度”や“色”を表出させる感性の使い手である。『ある男』の石川慶監督による『遠い山なみの光』でも、2つの時代にまたがる謎めいた物語の「つかめなさ」を歓迎するスタンスで臨んだ。
「これまでとは違い、演じるなかで気づいたら感じていた核心が本作にはありませんでした。どこか生々しいけれど、体温は感じない不思議なコントラストでした」と顧みるが、本人に不安はなかったという。「緊張感をもってライブで演じていくのが好きです。焦りがあるからこそ集中できて、一気にピントが合う瞬間が気持ちよくて」と屈託なく語る姿は頼もしい。オムレツを焼く所作に代表される“役の生活習慣や動線を落とし込む”練習は積みつつ、役を無理に引き寄せず、ただ共に時間を過ごした。
「作品に入るぞ、仕事だ！ と考えすぎると動きが固くなるため、自分の生活の一部としてそばに置いておくことで感度を保っています」
自身の性質に最適化した方法論を有する彼女は、画面の向こうで今日も瑞々しい。
