東北大学 冨永総長 ”5年で優秀な研究者 約500人獲得目指す”
世界トップレベルの研究水準を目指して、国が新たに支援を行う「国際卓越研究大学」に認定された東北大学の冨永総長が都内で会見し、今後5年間でおよそ300億円を投じ、優秀な研究者およそ500人の獲得を目指すと発表しました。
「国際卓越研究大学」は、世界トップレベルの研究水準を目指し、国が重点的に支援する大学で、財源には国が設立した10兆円規模の基金「大学ファンド」の運用益を活用します。
初回の公募で選ばれた東北大学には、今年度分としておよそ154億円が助成されています。
東北大学の冨永悌二総長が6日都内で会見し、研究の成果をあげるため海外などの研究者獲得の計画について説明しました。
それによりますと、アメリカの複数の大学と連携するなどして、今後5年間でおよそ300億円を投じて、優秀な研究者およそ500人の獲得を目指すということです。
教授1人当たりおよそ3000万円の年俸を用意し、特に優秀な研究者には報酬の上限を設けず採用するとしています。
今年度は助教など若手研究者も含めた100人ほどの採用に、およそ22億円を充て、将来を担う人材も積極的に採用したいとしています。
アメリカではトランプ大統領の方針のもと、科学研究への資金援助が削減されていることなどを踏まえ、冨永総長は「世界中から優秀な研究者を集める中で、窮地にあるアメリカの研究者にもアプローチしたい。今、求められているのは大学の研究を社会に実装し役立てることだ。そうするこで日本や世界の発展に貢献したい」と述べました。
