スズキ・エスクードが生まれ変わった!!! 間も無く日本に上陸する新型スズキeビターラとは？
スズキ初のバッテリーEV（BEV）、新型「eビターラ」のプロトタイプにひと足はやく乗った！『GQ JAPAN』ライフスタイル・エディターのイナガキが印象を綴る。

6月中旬、新型スズキeビターラのプロトタイプに、試乗した。
新型スズキeビターラは、スズキ初となるバッテリーEV（BEV）の量産モデル。2024年11月にイタリア・ミラノで公開された。日本ではあまり馴染みのない名前だが、ビターラは「エスクード」の海外名。つまり、新型スズキeビターラをわかりやすく説明すると“エスクードのBEV”だ。eビターラ登場にあわせ、名称を世界統一にしたという。
新型スズキeビターラは、2023年1月にインドで開催された「Auto Expo」、同年10月に日本で開催された「JAPAN MOBILITY SHOW」で公開したコンセプトモデル「eVX」をベースとした量産モデルで、スズキのBEV世界戦略車第1弾だ。ただし、スズキ独自開発ではなくトヨタとの協業だ。
2024年11月4日に発表された新型スズキeビターラに関するプレスリリースには「当社は、カーボンニュートラル社会の実現に向け、BEV、ハイブリッド車、CNG車など、地域に合った様々な選択肢を提供してまいります。eビターラの投入は、カーボンニュートラル実現のための非常に重要なマイルストーンとなります。今回のeビターラを皮切りに、今後もさらにBEVのラインアップを拡充するとともに、それぞれの国や地域に適所適材なモビリティを提案してまいります」と、鈴木俊宏代表取締役社⻑のコメントが記されていた。
新型スズキeビターラは、今後のスズキBEVラインナップにおける重要な一歩となるモデルだ。
新型スズキeビターラのデザインテーマは「High-Tech & Adventure」。BEVの先進感とSUVの力強さを融合させたという。
新型スズキeビターラの実車は、力強さより先進感が上回っているように見えた。かつてのエスクードほど、“オフロード感”はない。よりスタイリッシュで、街乗り向きだ。
ビターラがエスクードの海外名であることをすっかり失念していた筆者は、新鮮に見えた。誰にでもスッと受け入れられそうなデザインだ。
大径タイヤとロングホイールベースの組み合わせはスポーティで、走りの良さを想起させる。18インチのアルミホイールには、エアロダイナミックカバーを組み合わせた。
新型スズキeビターラのボディカラーは5パターン。ルーフがブラックとなる2トーンが4種類で、モノトーンがブラックのみ。いずれもシックで、チープさはナシ。
新型スズキeビターラは、樹脂製のホイールアーチやサイドクラッディングなどによって、悪路走破性の高さを主張するものの、エスクードのような泥臭さは漂わない。特にモノトーンのブラックは、いずれのパーツがボディカラーと同化するので、より、SUV感が薄れる。逆に「Land Breeze Green Pearl Metallic」と呼ぶ訴求カラーは、SUV感が強い。
