Skype、5月5日にサービス終了 Teamsに集約
Microsoftは28日(米国時間)、ビデオ通話/チャットサービスの「Skype」を5月5日をもって停止すると発表した。今後コミュニケーションについては「Microsoft Teams」に集約し、SkypeユーザーにTeamsへの移行を促していく。
2004年に登場し、かつてはオンラインチャットや通話の代名詞的な存在であったSkypeのサービスがまもなく終了する。Microsoftは2011年にSkypeを買収したが、近年はWindowsへのTeams統合などを進めている。
Microsoftでは、Teamsを使うことで、Skypeで使われる多くの機能が代替でき、1対1の通話やグループ通話、メッセージング、ファイル共有などが可能と説明。Teamsでは会議のホストやカレンダーの管理、コミュニティなど、より多くの機能を利用できるとしている。
移行に向けて、今後数日中にSkypeアカウントでTeamsにログインできるようにする。またTeamsへの移行を希望しない場合は、Skypeのチャットや連絡先、通話履歴などのデータをエクスポートできる。

Skypeクレジットや、国際通話などが可能な月額プランなど、有料のSkype機能の申込みは終了。既存ユーザーは5月のサービス終了まで利用可能となる。
Microsoftの発表では、「Skypeは、現代のコミュニケーションを形作るうえで重要な役割を担い、数えきれないほどの大切な瞬間をサポートしてきた。その一端を担うことができたことを光栄に思う」と言及している。
