韓国における現代美術の普及を牽引してきた「Gallery Hyundai」。1970年、ソウル・仁寺洞に前身となるギャラリーを開館して以来、伝統絵画や書を中心としていた当時の韓国の美術界に近現代美術を積極的に紹介し、イ・ジュンソプやパク・スグンといった韓国の代表的な作家の名を広く伝えてきた。1980年代以降は、ジョアン・ミロ、マルク・シャガール、ジャン＝ミシェル・バスキアら世界的な巨匠の展覧会を開催し、海外の近現代美術を韓国に紹介する役割も果たした。1987年には韓国のギャラリーとして初めて国際アートフェアに出展するなど、現在に至るまで先駆的な存在として知られている。

2001年にソウル・鍾路区花洞で開廊した「PKM Gallery」。2015年、創立14周年を機に三清洞（サムチョンドン）へ移転した。最大5.5mの天井高を備えた本館は地上2階、地下2階の全4層からなり、展示空間と建築そのものが見どころだ。2018年には別館「PKM+」も開設し、規模を広げている。開廊以来、韓国国内外の作家による展覧会を継続的に開催。韓国現代美術を代表する作家から、ジョン・バルデッサリ、オラファー・エリアソン、ダン・フレイヴィンら国際的な作家まで幅広く紹介している。2004年には韓国のギャラリーとして初めてフリーズ・アートフェアに招待され、その後も主要な国際アートフェアへの参加を重ねている。

ギャラリーやアーティスト、ブランドなど多彩な仲間と協働するプロジェクト「Working With Friend」。現代美術の展覧会をはじめ、ブランドのポップアップから音楽イベントまで手がけ、アート、デザイン、ファッションが交わる場をつくっている。この建物には、フランス人アーティストのジャン・ジュリアンと韓国人クリエイティブディレクターのホ・ジェヨンによるレーベル「NOUNOU」のフラッグシップストアとカフェも併設。ジュリアンのイラストを用いた衣類や雑貨を販売している。9月4日から11日までは、TOWA TEIの14作目となるアルバム『ZAMBIENT』の発売を記念したリスニングイベントを開催予定だ。

2021年、ソウル・解放村（ヘバンチョン）の五差路に実験的な展示スペースとして開廊した「Sangheeut」。絵画や彫刻にとどまらず、パフォーマンスを軸にした展示や上映会などを通して、作品の見せ方や鑑賞のあり方を問い直してきた。その後、経理団通り（キョンニダンキル）に近い解放村の入口へ移転。新たなギャラリーやパブ、レストラン、アーティストのスタジオが点在する街で、若手作家の活動を支える場として運営している。若手から中堅まで幅広い作家の個展やグループ展を開催。ギャラリーの原点である実験性を保ちながら、作品を発表する方法そのものを探る展示を発表している。

2017年にソウル・梨泰院で開廊した「Whistle」。ソウルを拠点に活動する若手作家を中心に、海外のアーティストを交えたグループ展も企画している。構想段階から作家と対話を重ね、ともに展覧会をつくり上げる姿勢が特徴なギャラリーだ。国内外のキュレーターやギャラリー、美術機関とも連携しながら、地域や世代を越えた交流を育むキュレーションプラットフォームとしても機能している。近年はフリーズ・ソウルやアート・バーゼル香港、リステ・アートフェア・バーゼルなどにも参加し、ソウルの若手作家を国際的に紹介する機会を広げている。

2017年、ソウル・梨泰院（イテウォン）に開廊した「P21」。作品形態や世代の枠を設けず、韓国国内外の若手から中堅、第一線で活躍する作家まで、幅広い現代美術を紹介している。開廊当初は、通りに面した「P1」と「P2」という2つの独立したホワイトキューブそれぞれで展示を企画。特徴的な空間を生かす独創的なアイデアに富んだ展示をつくってきた。その後2024年に、旧スペースから約100m離れた歴史あるレンガ造りの建物へ移転。現在は広くなった展示空間で、より多様な作品や視点を取り上げている。近年では、美術機関との共同企画や国際アートフェアへの参加にも力を入れている。

2015年にソウル・清潭洞（チョンダムドン）で開廊し、2021年に漢南洞（ハンナムドン）へ移転した「ThisWeekendRoom」。絵画、彫刻、陶芸、テキスタイル、インスタレーションなど幅広い作品を扱い、若手から中堅作家の展示を積極的に行なっている。ソウルに加え、香港、上海、北京、京都、ベルリン、ロンドンでも展覧会を実施。海外のギャラリーや美術機関とも協働し、韓国の作家を国外へ紹介する一方、海外作家の展覧会もソウルで開催してきた。作家との長期的な関係を築きながら、アジアとヨーロッパの美術シーンをつなぐことを目指している。
