上海で「シティ・オブ・ジーニアス」を開催──モンクレールによる「天才之城」をリポート
モンクレールは上海で「シティ・オブ・ジーニアス」を開催した。3万㎡に及ぶ広大な会場を舞台に、10の「ジーニアス」たちによるユニークな空間が披露された。詳細をリポートする。

モンクレールは2024年10月19日（土）、上海のCSSCパビリオンで「シティ・オブ・ジーニアス（The City of Genius）」を開催した。この施設は、黄浦江をまたぐ歴史的造船所で広さは3万㎡ある。日本で例えると東京ドーム1つ分の敷地に、一夜限りのクリエイティブワールドが創出された、ということだ。
このイベントでは、ファッション、音楽やアート、テクノロジー、デザインなど各界から集結したビジョナリーたちによる、「モンクレール ジーニアス」の新たなコレクションが公開された。会場は10のショーケースを中心に構成され、それぞれが異なる演出で空間が設計されている。以下がラインアップだ。またゲストのために、モンクレール流の小吃（シャオチー=軽食）を備えた特設のフードサービスやライブ会場、VIPエリアなどモンクレールによるホスピタリティが提供されている。

イベントのコンセプト、「ザ・シティ・オブ・ジーニアス」は、上海の革新と伝統、文化を取り入れ、ローカルのビジョナリーとグローバルな才能との繫がりを促す。モンクレールの会長兼CEOであるレモ・ルッフィーニは、このイベントについて次のようにコメントしている。
「このプロジェクトは、異なる世界や文化的背景が真の"CO-CREATION"によって互いを刺激し合い、それぞれの境界線を超える時に真のクリエイティビティが発揮される究極のエクスプレッションです。上海の活気溢れるエネルギーに後押しされ、私たち全員の中に宿る幼少期のジーニアス（天才）だった自分に導かれ、国内外のクリエイティブな才能が結集する場所となりました」
会場には”ジーニアス”の関係者をはじめ、セレブリティはナオミ・キャンベル、リアーナ、アン・ハサウェイ、ヘンリー・ラウ、マヌ・リオス、ヨンジュン（Tommrow x Together）、K（&TEAM）といった豪華な顔ぶれが揃う。そのほかメディア、そしてローカルの招待客らを合わせると、合計8000人を超えるゲストが訪問したという。

18時、イベントがスタートした。それぞれのクリエイターの世界観が表現されたショーケースに人々が列をなす。
パーム・エンジェルスはカーレースにインスピレーションを受け、70年代風のサーキットを作り上げ、エイサップ・ロッキーは巨大なプロジェクションスクリーンにコレクションを使ったビジュアルを映し出した。レトロなスキーウェアのようなデザインが目を引く。藤原ヒロシ率いるフラグメントデザインはアーティストのリチャード・ウィルソンとタッグを組み、“still waters running deep（深い川は静かに流れる）”をテーマに作品「OIL POOL」を用いた精緻なインスタレーションを展開。エドワード・エニンフルは気象観象台をテーマに、熱波が吹く砂丘から突風、氷山まで極限状態のシチュエーションをビジュアライズした。
今回、新たにジーニアスとして参加した「Mercedes-Benz by Nigo」の会場にも多くのゲストが訪れていた。過去の中に未来を見出すというコンセプトのもと、LED スクリーンをフロアに配して足場を組んだ立体的なルーフトップシティを作り上げた。ルーフトップには「Project Mercedes-Benz G-Class G-Class Past II Future」と題したアート作品が展示された。
そのほか、中国のアーティストたちによるインスタレーションも目立っていた。シュー・ビン（Xu Bing）の言葉の再構築のインスタレーションが、会場やライブストリーミングに織り込まれた。またルル・リー（LuLu Li）のショーケースではAIを探求したコレクションが鏡に囲まれた円形の舞台で展示されていた。
20時30分過ぎ。突然、フロアから大勢の嬌声が響く。目を向けるとクリエイティブパフォーマンスディレクターのヘンリー・ラウによるライブパフォーマンスがはじまった。バイオリンやピアノ、ダンスなど多彩な表現でヒット曲を披露した。ラウの一挙一動にファンが叫び、中国・上海の勢いを感じたシーンだった。最後のパフォーマンスが終わってもゲストたちは一向に帰る様子はなかった──。
モンクレールは中国だけでなくアジアの各地域に版図を広げている。そして、これほど数多くの”ジーニアス”たちと長期間にわたってコラボレーションを続けてきたブランドはほかにはない。だからこそ、その躍進は多くのファッションブランドにとって、模範であり、希望なのだろう。まだまだ熱気冷めやらぬ、広大な会場をあとにしながらそうを考えた。
