パンダの「タンタン」 剥製にして中国側に返還へ
神戸市の王子動物園で20年以上親しまれ、去年死んだジャイアントパンダの「タンタン」について、神戸市が剥製と骨格標本にした上で中国側に返還する手続きを進めていることがわかりました。
ジャイアントパンダの「タンタン」は阪神・淡路大震災からの復興などを願って2000年に中国から神戸市の市立王子動物園に貸し出され、復興のシンボルとして親しまれてきましたが、去年3月、人間の年齢にして100歳くらいに相当する28歳で死にました。
神戸市によりますと、中国側との契約ではタンタンが死んだあとも返還することになっているため、中国側と協議した結果、市が剥製と骨格標本にして送ることが決まったということです。
市はおよそ730万円をかけてことし3月までに剥製などを完成させましたが、国外に運び出すにはワシントン条約に基づいて国の許可が必要なため、現在、手続きを進めているということです。
また王子動物園によりますと、返還前に一般公開するかどうかなどを国や中国側と協議しているということです。
王子動物園は「タンタンは神戸市民を励まし、勇気を与えてくれた存在だ。返還後も、得られた知見を生かして中国側との共同研究を続けていきたい」としています。
