2030年の冬のオリンピックの実施競技から外れたスキーノルディック複合の山本涼太選手が、ことし始まる次のシーズンからスキージャンプに転向すると発表しました。

スキーノルディック複合は今月開かれたIOC＝国際オリンピック委員会の理事会で2030年にフランス・アルプス地域で開催される冬のオリンピックの実施競技から外れることが決まりました。

これを受けて、山本選手は今後の競技生活について検討していましたが16日、所属クラブを通じて、ことし始まる次のシーズンからスキージャンプに転向すると発表しました。

山本選手は2022年の北京大会ではノルディック複合の団体で28年ぶりの銅メダル獲得に貢献するなどオリンピックに2大会連続で出場していて、次世代のエースとして期待されていました。

山本選手は「多くの方々に支えていただき、たくさんの経験を積ませていただいたこの競技を離れることは、とてもさみしく、簡単な決断ではありませんでした」としたうえで転向の理由について、「ジャンプ台から飛び立つ瞬間の高揚感や、空を滑空する感覚、特にスキーフライングの魅力は競技を続ける中でもずっと私の心を引きつけてきました。その気持ちに正直になり、新たな挑戦を決意しました。また、オリンピックという舞台は今も私にとって1番大きな目標です。その夢をもう一度追いかけ、自分の可能性に挑戦したいという思いも、今回の決断を後押ししました。これからもノルディック複合に育ててもらったという誇りを持ち続けます」などとコメントしています
