イスラエル軍は4月20日（日本時間）に公式X（@IDF）を更新。自軍の兵士が隣国レバノン南部でキリスト像を破壊したことを明らかにしました。 イスラエル兵とみられる人物が、倒れたキリスト像の顔面をハンマーを叩く画像がSNS上に拡散したことを受けて同軍が調査。その結果、この写真がフェイクではなく「レバノン南部で活動するイスラエル兵士」だと判明したそうです。

イスラエル軍はXでの発表で「この事態を重大なものと見ており、兵士の行動は部隊に期待される価値観と全く一致しないもの」と強調しました。 「関与した者には適切な措置が取られる予定」とした上で、キリスト像を元の場所に復元する作業を行っていると続けました。 同軍の投稿は「テロリストのインフラを解体する作戦を実行しており、民間インフラ（宗教施設や宗教シンボルを含む）を損傷する意図は一切ありません」と結んでいます。
