Google検索、google.comに統一へ 国別ドメインは廃止
Googleは15日、「Google 検索」において国別コードトップレベルドメイン(ccTLD)を今後数カ月で廃止し、google.comに統一すると発表した。

ccTLDは、ナイジェリアではgoogle.ng、ブラジルではgoogle.com.brなど、地域に特化した検索結果を提供するために使われてきた。
日本でもgoogle.co.jpなどが使われてきたが、Googleでは2017年から、google.comに集約を進めており、google.comでも、その国のccTLDでも、同じローカルの結果を提供している。そのため、「国レベルのドメインはもはや必要ない」として、今後数カ月でccTLDからのトラフィックをgoogle.comにリダイレクトしていく。
その際に一部の検索設定を再入力するよう求められる場合があるほか、ブラウザのアドレスバーに表示されるURLは変更されるが、検索の仕組みや各国の法律の遵守などに影響を与えることはないとしている。
