イトーキら、太陽光パネル板ガラスをそのまま家具に再利用
イトーキは、日立製作所、トクヤマと共同で、太陽光パネルから回収した板ガラスを、オフィス家具の部材として再利用するアップサイクル実証を行なったと発表した。2030年以降、寿命を迎えた太陽光パネルの廃棄増加が懸念されるなか、廃材の再利用を目指す。CO2排出量は新規ガラス製造と比較して最大50%の削減が見込まれる。

トクヤマが低温熱分解法を用いて高品質な板ガラスを回収し、日立が非破壊強度推定技術を用いて亀裂やアルカリ溶出などの劣化状態を評価する。これにより、板ガラスを粉砕せずに再利用することが可能になる。
イトーキは回収した板ガラスを用いて会議ブースを試作。板厚が限定され、サイズも不均一な回収ガラスを効率的に再利用するため、合わせガラス化で安全面に配慮するとともに、ガラス面とスチール面を混合させて強度を保持できるパネル構造を再設計した。
太陽光パネルの廃棄は国内で2030年代に年間50万トン規模に達すると予測されている。従来のリサイクル方法では、粉砕して路盤材や原料とするのが一般的だった。
