ヒスイの中から新種鉱物「アマテラス石」と名付ける 東大など
岡山県で採取されたヒスイの中から新種の鉱物が見つかり、「アマテラス石」と名付けたと、東京大学などの研究チームが発表しました。
この鉱物は岡山県新見市の山中で採取されたヒスイの中から見つかり、緑がかった黒い色をしています。
東京大学や山口大学などの研究チームは、鉱物を詳しく分析した結果、ほかの鉱物には見られない独自の元素比率や、特徴的な結晶構造を確認したということで、「アマテラス石」と名付けて、去年11月、国際鉱物学連合から新種の鉱物として承認を受けました。
命名の経緯について研究チームは、古くから日本人の生活に関わり国の石を意味する「国石」にも選ばれているヒスイの中から見つかったことなどから、天照大神にちなんで名付けたとしています。
「アマテラス石」はプレートの境界付近での地質作用によってヒスイとともに生成したと考えられ、ヒスイの生成過程を詳しく理解する上でも貴重な資料になるということです。
東京大学物性研究所の浜根大輔技術専門職員は、「岡山のヒスイの中にはアマテラス石のほかにも新しい鉱物が含まれていることがわかっている。さらに調査を進めていきたい」と話していました。
