JAL、“サメ肌”の塗膜で燃費を向上 国際線に導入
日本航空株(JAL)とJAXA、オーウエルは、ボーイング787-9型機(JA868J)の機体胴体の大部分に“サメ肌”状のリブレット形状の塗膜を施した。同機体を世界で初めて、国際線として運航し、燃費改善を検証する。就航開始は1月中旬を予定している。

航空機の脱炭素化に向けた取り組みとして、機体の空気抵抗の低減と算燃費改善を狙うもの。リブレット形状とは、サメ肌形状により、水の抵抗が軽減されることにヒントを得て考案された微細な溝構造。飛行時の空気の流れに沿って機体外板に微細な溝構造を形成することで、飛行時の抵抗軽減を図る。
機体の塗膜に、サメ肌のような細かな凹凸をつけることで燃費の改善を図っているほか、塗膜に直接リブレット形状を施工するため、デカールやフィルムによるリブレット加工と比べ、重量の軽減や耐久性の向上が期待できるという。
JAXAによる風洞試験などで抵抗低減効果が確認できたほか、オーウエルによる機体大型化に対応できるリブレット塗膜施工システムの開発により、国際線機材の胴体上部まで施工面積を拡大。長距離の飛行により燃費改善効果が期待できる国際線での実証試験を行なう。
今回施工した機体では、巡航時の抵抗低減率が0.24%となり、年間約119トンの燃料消費量の削減と、約381トンのCO2排出量の削減が期待できるという。
