新型ハーレーダビッドソンX500は、“83万9800円”とは思えぬ価値ある1台だったワケとは？
ハーレーダビッドソンの新しい「X500」に、河西啓介が乗った！ 排気量違いの「X350」との違いはいかに？

2年前、ハーレーダビッドソンの小中排気量スポーツモデルとして登場したXシリーズは、“中免（普通二輪免許）で乗れるハーレー”として話題を集めた350ccのX350と、ややその影に隠れた感はあるものの、とはいえ従来のハーレーに比べれば格段にコンパクトな500ccのX500の2モデルがラインナップされた。
Xシリーズについて改めておさらいをすると、日本に先駆けてインドや中国で発表された世界戦略モデルであり、ハーレーのリリースによれば“ファッショナブルな都市型コミューター”と、評されている。つまり大型ツアラーをメインとしてきた従来のハーレーとは異なる、サブブランド的な位置づけのエントリーモデルということだ。設計をミルウォーキーのハーレー本社、生産を提携する中国の銭江モーターで行うことで、価格もぐっとリーズナブルに抑えられていた。
今回、新カラーの「コズミックブルー」を加えて新登場した2025年モデルのX500に試乗した。X350が1970年代にレースで活躍した「XR750」をモチーフとしたフラットトラッカースタイルでわかりやすく目を惹くのに比べ、X500はオーソドックスなロードスタースタイルで、有り体に言えばやや“地味”な印象だ。
だがよく見れば、ティアドロップ型の燃料タンク、スポーツスターにも似た丸みを帯びたリヤフェンダーなど、随所にハーレーらしさが散りばめられているのがわかる。全体のスタイルはヴィンテージな英国車風とも言え、レトロなスタイルが好きな人には好まれそうだ。
実車に跨ってみると、スリムでスポーティーなX350に対し、X500は意外なほど逞しく堂々とした印象だ。シートは厚みがありクッション性が高く、ハンドルはワイドで高めの位置にある。車重は208kgとX350より13kg重いが、このクラスとしては標準的だ。
エンジンは水冷500cc並列2気筒を積む。360度クランクのパラレルツインという形式はX350と同じだが、X350がボア70.5mm×ストローク45.2mmというショートストローク型なのに対し、X500は69mm×66.8mmと、ボア✕ストローク値が近いスクエア型になっている。これによりエンジンの回転フィールはかなり異なり、X350が下から上までビュンビュンとモーターのように回るのに対し、X500は低回転域でドコドコドコっという“鼓動”を感じさせる。さらにアクセルを開けると、力強いトルクとともに後輪で路面を蹴飛ばすように加速し、高回転になるとヒューンとスムーズに伸びていく。
X500の最高出力は47ps/8500rpm、最大トルクは46Nm/6000rpmで、X350の36ps、31Nmの1.5倍ほどある。400ccを境に中型／大型という免許の“壁”がある日本では、400／500cc、400／600ccなど、同一の車体で排気量の違うモデルがラインナップされることがあるが、じつは400ccと500〜600ccでは、乗り比べてみると「え？」と、思うほどエンジンの力感やキャラクターに違いがあったりする。X500とX350も同様に、排気量による違いは予想以上に大きかった。
エンジンのキャラクターと同様、ハンドリングや乗り心地についても軽快さが印象的なX350に対して、X500は落ち着きがありしなやかだ。50mmの太い倒立式フロントフォークにラジアルマウントされたブレーキキャリパーを備える足まわりは、見た目だけでなく動的質感も高い。ブレーキのタッチや制動時の安定感など、「いいバイクに乗っているな」と、感じさせる。もし“中国生産”に対する先入観をもっているとしたら、そこは心配しなくていいと思う。
そしてもうひとつ、触れずにはおけないXシリーズの魅力は“価格”だ。2023年に登場したとき、X350の¥699,000、X500の¥839,800（ともに税込み）というプライスはちょっとした“衝撃”だった。同クラスの国産車と比べても同等かむしろ安く、当時すでに進んでいた円安を考えればかなりの戦略価格であり、ハーレーブランドの新車がこの価格で登場したというのは驚きだった。
今回、ハーレーのXシリーズ拡販に対する意気込みを感じるのは、さらに円安が進んだいま、この価格が据え置かれたことだ。2025年モデルのX500は変わらず¥839,800。これは同じ排気量のホンダ「レブル500」（¥924.000）と比べて¥100,000近く安いのだ。
最初に触れたように、フラットトラッカースタイルのX350に比べ、ちょっと地味な印象のあるX500だが、もし大型二輪免許を持っていて、街乗りからツーリングまでオールマイティに楽しめるバイクを求めるなら、X500はよい選択肢になるのではないだろうか。ハーレーブランドは置いておいたとしても、国産、海外メーカーを含めたミドルクラスのモーターサイクルの中で、いまとても魅力的な1台だと思う。
