参議院の英語表記が「House of Councillors」から「上院」を意味する「Senate」に変更されることになりました。10月から議員の海外派遣などで使用されるということです。

参議院を表す英語表記は、現在「House of Councillors」となっていますが、参議院事務局によりますと、外国から国会の一院と認識されないケースがあるなど、参議院の位置づけを的確に表していないといった指摘が出ていたということです。

これを受けて参議院議院運営委員会は、23日の理事会で、対外的な活動に使用する英語表記について協議しました。

そして、これまでの「House of Councillors」から「上院」を意味する「Senate」に変更することを申し合わせました。

議員の海外派遣や外国要人との会談での肩書、公用パスポートの記載などについて10月以降、順次変更していくということです。
