新型トヨタ クラウン クロスオーバーRS"THE 70th"は偉大である！ 悩んでいる人は、今こそ買うべき理由とは？
トヨタの新型「クラウン クロスオーバー」に設定された、特別仕様車「"THE 70th"」に、『GQ JAPAN』ライフスタイル・エディターのイナガキが乗った。70年の“伝統”と“歴史”を考える！

試乗車はトヨタ クラウン クロスオーバーRS"THE 70th"。
エクステリアのうちボディカラーは、「プレシャスメタル×プレシャスホワイトパール」の2トーンが目をひく。本特別仕様車のみのメーカーオプションだ。
プレシャスメタル×プレシャスホワイトパール以外にもプレシャスメタル×ブラックを用意。いずれも、“日本の風景との調和”を表現したという。東京都心部では、ほどよい特別感がイイ。2トーンだから、目立たないわけではないけれど、ほかの2トーンのボディカラーと比べると控えめだ。
トヨタ クラウンらしく“白”（プレシャスホワイトパール）を用意した点も70年という歴史の重みを感じた。
1967年9月に発売した3代目トヨタ クラウンは、オーナードライバーへの拡販を努めるべく、「白いクラウン」キャンペーンを実施。公用車や社用車を象徴する黒ではなく、自家用車に人気だった白が似合うことをアピールした。そういえば、3代目のトヨタ クラウンのテーマは「日本の美」。プレシャスメタル×プレシャスホワイトパールも“日本の風景との調和”を表現したというから、3代目を意識した設定かもしれない。
新型トヨタ クラウン クロスオーバーRS"THE 70th"のエクステリアではほかに、マットブラック塗装を施した21インチアルミホイール、THE 70thロゴをあしらった専用のサイドデカール（本特別仕様車のみのメーカーオプション）、ブラック加飾を施したトヨタエンブレムを装備。いずれも、控えめなデザインだ。
クルマに乗り込み、専用のスポーツシート（スポーツレザー[本革]/レッドステッチ付）に着座する。ホールド性、座り心地、共に申し分ない。トヨタのスポーツシートは、ホンモノだ。クラウンというと豪奢なモケットシートといったイメージが強いものの、スポーティなクロスオーバーにはスポーツシートが似合う。
電動調整式のステアリングは、ディンプル加工を施した本革巻き3本スポークタイプ。握り心地は良好。アルミペダル（アクセル・ブレーキ）も組み合わせ、コクピットまわりは実にスポーティだ。見掛け倒しではない、ホンモノの装備が嬉しい。
ほかに、THE 70thロゴをあしらったプレミアムシフトノブやインストルメントパネル（専用レーザー加飾）なども装備。細部にわたり70周年を祝す。
