鹿児島 直立したまま眠るマッコウクジラ 奄美大島近海で撮影
マッコウクジラが群れをつくり水中で直立したまま眠っている珍しい光景が、鹿児島県の奄美大島近海で撮影されました。
1日のわずかな時間だけ 非常に珍しい光景
鹿児島県の奄美大島にある宇検村の沖合およそ20キロで確認されたのは、体長10メートル以上のマッコウクジラの集団です。
海洋生物の調査を行っている興克樹さんが今月23日、撮影に成功しました。
映像ではおよそ20頭のマッコウクジラが群れをつくり、中央にいる子ども5頭が水中で直立したまま仮眠をとっている様子がとらえられています。
ほかのクジラは周りを取り囲むようにして水面付近で泳いでいます。
映像ではコミュニケーションをとるために「クリック音」と呼ばれる音を出している様子や、若いオスの個体が生殖器を出しながらメスに近づいていく様子も確認できます。
帝京科学大学の青木かがり准教授によりますとマッコウクジラが垂直になって寝るのは1日の7％ほどとわずかな時間で、こうして確認できるのは非常に珍しいということです。
また、母親と子どもたちの集団に繁殖のためにオスが近づいているとみられるということで「奄美大島近海がマッコウクジラの育児や繁殖の場所になっている可能性があり、解明されていない生態を知れる貴重な海域だ」と指摘しています。
撮影した興さんは「これほど大きな群れを見られたのは初めてで感動した。ホエールウォッチングツアーに同行する形で調査を行っているので、参加者と一緒に生態解明につながる新たな発見を目指したい」と話していました。
