Amazonは4日(米国時間)、物流サービスを外部企業に解放する新たな仕組み「Amazon Supply Chain Services(Amazonサプライチェーンサービス/ASCS)」を開始すると発表した。Amazonの販売事業者以外でも、Amazonによる商品の輸送や保管、配送などの仕組みを利用可能となる。 同社では、過去3年間、数十万のAmazonの販売者がAmazonの物流ネットワークを使い、Amazonストア以外のサードパーティ施設、倉庫、販売チャネルを通じて、数億個の荷物の輸送、保管、配送を行なってきた。「ASCS」はこの仕組みを拡張するもので、Amazon出店者以外の企業に向けて、貨物輸送、流通、フルフィルメント、小包配送の機能を提供するものになる。 初期導入企業として、P&G(Procter & Gamble)、3M、Lands’ End、アメリカン・イーグルなどのブランドが参加しており、サプライチェーン全体でAmazonの物流ネットワークを活用している。 Amazonはすでに、空・陸・海の貨物輸送や1日数百万件の注文をピッキング・梱包するフルフィルメントセンター、週7日パッケージを配送する小包配送ネットワークを構築している。 ASCSにより、これらのサービスをAmazon以外の事業者にも解放。あらゆる業種・規模の企業が、Amazonの貨物輸送、流通、フルフィルメント、小包配送などのサービスを利用可能とし、物流のほとんどをAmazonに委ねられるようにする。またASCSは、貨物輸送だけでなく通関手続きや輸送可視化などを含み、スピードや多くのサービスオプションが特徴なっている。 AmazonではASCSのサービス開始にあわせて、サードパーティ・ロジスティクス(3PL)の能力を拡大。医療、自動車、製造、小売などの業界の企業への導入を目指す。 Amazonでは、かつて自社の巨大なクラウドインフラを「サービス」として外販し、それが現在のAWS(Amazon Web Services)となっている。ASCSはその物流・サプライチェーンバージョンとも言える新たな展開となる。
