グレコローマンスタイル87キロ級で、ことしの20歳以下の世界選手権で優勝した吉田選手は初戦から相手に1ポイントも与えない圧倒的な強さで勝ち進み、決勝ではことしのアジア選手権で優勝したキルギスの選手と対戦しました。

中学時代に相撲の全国大会で優勝した経験もある吉田選手は、序盤から持ち味の力強い押しを見せて2対1とリードして前半を終えました。

後半も積極的に前に出て相手を押し倒すなどポイントを重ねて圧倒し、11対1のテクニカルスペリオリティで勝って初出場で金メダルを獲得しました。

また、女子68キロ級では去年の世界選手権で優勝した石井亜海選手が決勝で北朝鮮の選手と対戦し、持ち味の素早いタックルから相手の背後をとるなどしてポイントを重ね、7対2で勝って金メダルを獲得しました。
