Uber Japanは、「Uber Taxi」において、現金払いでもキャンペーンなどの割引が適用される新機能を導入した。広島エリアから提供が開始されており、今後も現金払いの利用が多い地域から順次展開し、全国へ拡大する。
新機能が導入されるエリアでは今後、現金払いでも、アプリ上でプロモーションコードを適用した状態で配車でき、降車時に「割引後の金額」をドライバーへ支払うことが可能になる。これまでUberの割引施策は、クレジットカードやデジタル決済が対象だった。
プロモーションコード(割引クーポン)などでサービスを初めて利用するユーザーに対しても、すぐに支払える現金を対象にすることで、利用や体験を促す狙い。
Uberの配車サービスでは、地方で現金利用率が高く、乗車の約4割が現金払いのエリアもあるという。地方における現金払いでも割引を受けられる環境を整備し、サービスの拡大を図る。
