WMO＝世界気象機関は3日、太平洋の赤道付近で発生している「エルニーニョ現象」について、さらに発達しながら来年2月まで続く見通しだとしたうえで、各地で洪水や干ばつなどのリスクが高まるおそれがあるとして警戒を呼びかけています。

「エルニーニョ現象」は南米・ペルー沖の赤道付近の海面水温が平年より高くなる現象で、世界各地で熱波や干ばつといった異常気象を引き起こすことが知られています。

WMOによりますと、海面水温の上昇は続いていて、エルニーニョ現象は年末にかけて発達のピークを迎えたうえで、来年2月まで続く見通しだということです。

WMOのセレステ・サウロ事務局長は3日、会見で「このまま発達が続けばこれまでモニタリングしてきたどのエルニーニョ現象よりも強くなる可能性がある」と述べました。

WMOは、エルニーニョ現象が強まることで世界各地で降水量や気温が大きく変化し、洪水や干ばつなどのリスクが高まるおそれがあるとして各国に警戒を呼びかけています。
