JR東、郵便物を在来線で定期輸送 山形・羽越本線で日本郵便と連携
JR東日本と日本郵便は、羽越本線での郵便物、ゆうパックなどの定期輸送を4月13日に開始する。列車は酒田発・村上行の普通列車、区間は鶴岡駅～あつみ温泉駅で、毎日1便を貨客混載輸送に切り替える。
JR東日本と日本郵便は両社のネットワークを連携した、新しい「持続可能な物流の実現」を目指しており、今回の取り組みは「物流のリ・デザイン」の第1弾となる。
日本郵便が鶴岡郵便局～温海郵便局において郵便車両により輸送している1日3便のうち、夕方時間帯に輸送している1便について、羽越本線での輸送に切り替える。積載場所は乗務員室内(最前部)。
JR東日本は新幹線・在来線特急列車等を活用した列車荷物輸送サービス「はこビュン」を展開しており、郵便物輸送も「はこビュン」にて取り扱う。
輸送を郵便車両から鉄道に置き換えることによる、CO2排出量削減などの環境負荷低減を見込む。
今後は、羽越本線での取り組みより培った知見を活かし、在来線他線区や新幹線への貨客混載輸送のさらなる拡大を目指す。
