まもなくテスラの次世代「ロードスター」が発表される。 2017年のサプライズ発表から幾度となく生産延期が繰り返されてきた第2世代ロードスターであるが、2026年10月1日にテキサス州で正式なローンチイベントが開催される予定だ。テスラの公式アカウントがSNSでティーザーを公開し、マスクCEO自身もその日に披露されることを明言している。長らく待たされた分、当初の構想からはデザインや性能目標が引き上げられており、もはや従来の自動車の枠組みに収まらないプロダクトへと進化している可能性が高い。

もっとも注目されているのは、宇宙開発企業SpaceXとの共同開発によってもたらされる高いパフォーマンスである。海外の自動車メディアの報道によれば、次世代ロードスターにはオプションとして冷ガススラスターを用いた「SpaceXパッケージ」が設定される見込みという。これにより、静止状態から時速60マイル（約96km/h）までの加速時間は1秒未満という、内燃機関のスーパーカーでは到底不可能な数値を叩き出すとされている。駆動系はフロントに1基、リアに2基のモーターを搭載したトルクベクタリング付きの全輪駆動システムを採用し、最高時速は250マイル（約402km/h）を超えるという。圧倒的な動力を支えるのが、コンパクトな車体に詰め込まれる200kWhの巨大なバッテリーパックだ。最新の情報では、この大容量バッテリーにより、高速道路での巡航時において最大620マイル（約997km）と市販の電気自動車としてトップクラスの航続距離を実現するとされている。開発当初は既存モデルのコンポーネントを流用する計画もあったが、現在では新設計の専用EVプラットフォームとカーボンファイバー製のボディが採用されるようだ。

気になる価格について、海外の自動車専門誌の予測ではベースモデルがおよそ約20万ドル、初期生産の限定モデルであるファウンダーズシリーズが約25万ドル程度からになると見られている。生産は「サイバートラック」などと同じくテキサス州のギガファクトリーで行われる見通しであり、実際の納車開始時期は2026年後半から2027年以降になると推測。なお、直近の為替レート（1ドル＝約154.44円）で計算した場合、予想される車両価格はベースモデルが約¥30,888,000、ファウンダーズシリーズ（25万ドル）が約¥38,610,000だ。
