志賀直哉「暗夜行路」の草稿 新たに見つかる 千葉 我孫子
作家の志賀直哉が記した長編小説「暗夜行路」の草稿が、千葉県我孫子市の民家から新たに見つかり、志賀と地域の住民の交流を示す貴重な資料として注目されています。
「暗夜行路」は志賀直哉が唯一手がけた長編小説で、1912年に執筆を始めてから試行錯誤を繰り返して25年後に完結し、志賀はこのうちの8年間、我孫子市に書斎を構えて執筆に取り組みました。
「暗夜行路」の草稿は、これまでに多くのものが見つかっていますが、去年4月、市内に住む小熊吉明さんが自宅で曽祖父の遺品を整理していた際に新たに見つかり、市が専門家に鑑定を依頼して、直筆で未発見のものと確認されたということです。
見つかった草稿は、縦20センチ、横14.5センチの市販のノートに鉛筆で記され、主人公の名前が出版された原稿と異なる「順吉」となっていて、小説の後編にある主人公の京都での新婚生活や、妻との花札のエピソードなどが描かれ、細かい手直しの跡も分かるということです。
市によりますと、草稿は表紙の記述などから、当時地域で鳥の剥製の販売などを行っていた小熊さんの曽祖父に志賀が譲ったとみられるということで、市は地域との交流がうかがえる貴重な資料だとしています。
市は、ことし10月にも市内の「白樺文学館」で展示することにしています。
