工業用や化粧品のプラを飲料ペットボトルに再生 キリン・アサヒ・花王ら
キリンホールディングス、アサヒ飲料、TDK、花王など業界を超えた9社が連携し、飲料用ペットボトルと、工業用フィルムや化粧品ボトルなど非食品用途PETを原料とするケミカルリサイクル(CR)により、各種ペットボトルへリサイクルする取り組みを開始する。非食品用途PETを原料に、飲料用ペットボトルとして再生する取り組みは国内初となる。
キリンホールディングス、アサヒ飲料、JEPLAN、TDK、村田製作所、花王、ファンケル、キリンビバレッジ、ペットリファインテクノロジーの9社連携による取り組み。飲料用ペットボトルのCR原料の一部を非食品用途PETへ拡大し、これまでのリサイクルでは十分なプラスチックの資源循環には至らないという課題に対応することを目的としている。
使用済み飲料用ペットボトルに加えて、非食品用途として使用された工業用フィルム、化粧品ボトル、自動販売機用商品サンプルをCRの原料として使用する。CRとは、分子レベルまで分解し、色素や金属などの不純物を取り除くことで、石油由来と同等品質の再生PET樹脂へ再生するリサイクル手法。
工業用フィルムはTDKと村田製作所が、電子部品を製造する際に使用された工業用PETフィルムの端材をリサイクル原料として供給。化粧品ボトルは花王とファンケルが、店頭で回収した使用済みの化粧品ボトルを供給する。また、自動販売機用商品サンプルはキリンビバレッジにて商品入れ替え時に不要となったものを供給する。
その後、ペットリファインテクノロジーがCRを実施し、CR樹脂使用各社に供給。使用する各社は、CRで再生されたPET樹脂の品質評価を実施した上で、飲料用ペットボトルや化粧品ボトルへの採用を検討する。
キリンビバレッジは4月から飲料用ペットボトルの一部にて、花王は5月から化粧品ボトルの一部に当原料を一部採用し、製造を開始する。アサヒ飲料は10月以降の採用を予定、ファンケルは採用に向けた検討を進める。
各社はこれまでも、PET樹脂におけるCRでの水平リサイクルに取り組んできた。今回の取り組みは、JEPLANが有する独自のPET樹脂におけるCR技術に対し、キリンのパッケージイノベーション研究所が保有するPET樹脂を食品容器としてリサイクルする際の安全性評価に関する考え方や分析方法を提案。各社での安全性評価を経て実施に至った。
